Thomas Tuchel looks set to drop the club-record signing from the match-day squad entirely as Lukaku appeared to take a swipe at Tuche’s tactics in what is understood to have been an unauthorised interview with Sky Italia three weeks ago.

Having scored two in his last two games, dropping Lukaku is a big call for Tuchel, who is thought to be livid at the situation and is ready to put his foot down.

Chelsea have injury issues in defence as well with Reece James and Ben Chilwell out, Andreas Christensen a doubt and Thiago Silva having only returned to training late this week after injury.

While it might not be a must-win for either side, it is certainly a must-not-lose as Man City stretched their lead at the top of the Premier League to 11 points on Saturday with a 2-1 win over Arsenal, their 11th straight victory in the top flight.
